R&D Interest
1. Nanopattern designing for molecular sensing and devices.
We can mimic natural sensors if our detection techniques or systems can sense thing molecule by molecule. And key for such techniques lie in future electronics technology which is evolving from rigid devices to bendable/rollable/foldable devices that are wearable like clothes or accessories. Traditional device fabrication processes which have also been limited mostly to rigid substrates and vacuum deposition methods, however, are now evolving with electron beam lithography and photolithography leading to nanopatterning of 2D materials such as graphene, boron nitride (BN), and transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs). These materials are not only attractive because of their outstanding electrical, optical, and mechanical properties, but also perfect for interfacing with molecules. My group is exploring graphene for flexible electronics and molecular sensing.
2. Nanofluids for smart cooling systems.
Cooling is one of the most important technical challenges faced by many industries, including microelectronics, transportation, solid-state lighting, and manufacturing. Technological developments such as microelectronic devices with smaller (sub-100 nm) features and faster (multi-gigahertz) operating speeds, higher-power engines, and brighter optical devices are driving increased thermal loads, requiring advances in cooling. The conventional method for increasing heat dissipation is to increase the area available for exchanging heat with a heat transfer fluid. However, this approach requires an undesirable increase in the thermal management system’s size. There is therefore an urgent need for new and innovative coolants with improved performance. The novel concept of ‘nanofluids’ – heat transfer fluids containing suspensions of nanoparticles – is explored as a means of meeting these challenges.
3. Decoherence study of single electron injected in carbon nanostructures for quantum information processing.
Spin qubits hosted in various solid state nanostructres have been under extensive research from last one decade. There are different approaches which are being followed regarding host materials of spin qubits, like III-V semiconductor quantum dots, Nitrogen vacancies in diamond, carbon nanotube quantum dots and graphene quantum dots.
