Brief Profile
Dr Amit Laddi has keen interest to work on socially relevant, indigenous, and innovative technological interventions to assist healthcare givers and empower Persons with special needs, elderly, and destitute population of India.
His recent research work involved design and development of several innovative assistive technologies for Divyangjans, Children, Elderly, and healthcare providers especially, dentists, vascular surgeons, and phlebotomists. Technology transferred to the industry involved Finger Gesture based Control Module for Intelligent Patient Vehicle and several others are in line. The technologies developed for the healthcare sector are under clinical trials/testing with premier institutes.

Current Work Area

Currently, he is working towards design and development of innovative sensing devices and techniques useful for Healthcare & Avionics sector. Especially, embedded vision, image and video analytics, AI-ML based technologies, head gestures and eye gaze tracking based cueing and interactive control, etc.

It has been developed for healthcare providers to safeguard from Covid19 related infections.
  • Mobil-Assist (Wireless phone and mobile/tablet-based control interface) An innovative solution towards wireless mobility control cum assistive living for Divyangjans having locomotor disability. It is an extremely affordable, indigenous, wireless touch screen control unit designed and developed in-house at Biomedical Instrumentation, CSIR-CSIO.
  • Head Gesture based Control Module for Intelligent Patient Vehicle The head gesture based alternative drive controller works similar to Joystick controller to manoeuvre the motorized wheelchair by tracking the head movements using camera. It consists of a facial feature tracking-based head pose proportional controller to manoeuvre motorized wheelchair in indoor environments.
  • Stereoscopic (3D) vision system for Minimal invasive and Microsurgical applications This work involved development of Indigenized version of a software framework for 3D vision generation and display during minimal invasive robotic surgery.
  • Eye Gaze Tracking based Interactive Directional Control Interface To assist special need persons, who desired eye movements for interactive control purposes
  • Instrumentation for black tea grade estimation Research comprised of data acquisition setup along with real-time analysis software for quick and accurate tea quality evaluation. Novelty of this work is the correlation analysis of the physical attributes of black CTC tea with its quality, seasonal variations, and chemical constituents along with illumination effects.
  • Software and hardware implementation of Finger and head gesture control to manoeuvre wheelchair
