Brief Profile

Dr. Suman Singh work in the area of material science where they explore variety of materials from their bulk form to nano form. These materials vary from polymers, metal nanoparticles, carbon and carbon like structures including various types of 2D materials (Graphene, reduced graphene oxide, MXenes, MBenes, semiconductor quantum dots, etc. Main focus is on the ease of their synthesis with minimal chemical interventions and optimal processing conditions, where in green synthesis and electrochemistry become crucial. These materials are used as sensing probes, functionalization entity, catalysts (Optical & Electrochemical), thin films and are often interfaced with microfluidics, 3 D printing devices, paper devices, electrochemical disposable screen printed electrodes, etc. The potential application of these materials is exploited for food and water quality, waste water treatment, energy storage, and diagnostics. Her professional excellence can be espied from publication in high impact factor SCI journals, book chapters, and filed patents, along with best paper awards in many national and international conferences.

As a supervisor, She has guided about 50 students for their undergraduate and postgraduate thesis work and 5 students have already completed their PhD. Presently, 3 students are pursuing their PhD.

Current Work Area

My area of research is designing of composites consisting of functional bulk and nanomaterials for applications like diagnosis of disease biomarkers, biosensors for food quality spoiling agents, sensing of water pollutants, chemosensing of explosive compounds, using optical and electroactive probes. These composites are also studied for their biomedical applications as anti-corrosive and anti-bacterial coatings on orthopaedic materials. The research area also includes designing of self-assembled layers and thin film depositions using sol-gel and electrochemical techniques for various applications
